Branding
& Logo Design
I am an advocate for anything outdoors such as camping gear, knives, hatchets, etc. I also love creating things with my own two hands. With this project, I wanted to combine the two and try something more hands-on instead of the casual digital aspect.
Fressingfield Knives is an imaginary knife forgery based in Fressingfield Suffolk England. The purpose was to create a brand logo and image for an object that was not commonly thought of, hence knives.

Inspiration
At the time that this project was given to me, I was in another class called Art History. As the title suggests, in this class, we went through the major art movements since the first creations of what we call art. There was one movement, the Anglo-Saxon period, where we talked about art in the U.K. and the use of Celtic knots. This is where I got the main inspiration for the brand.
This Anglo-Saxon period style led me to want this to be like a local forgery that has been around for generations and that is what brought me to the town of Fressingfield U.K. Fressingfield is an old small town in the Suffolk region of England that was the perfect place for a generational forgery.
Icon Creation
Although I was taking inspiration from these beautiful but complicated designs, I wanted to simplify the idea of a Celtic knot for the logo that would make a strong icon once you see it. This is how I landed on the knot that is used with-in the finished logo.

Garamond:
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvxyz
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
1234567890!?
Type Selection
The typeface that I ended up using for the copy in the logo is Garamond. When considering typefaces, I knew I wanted a serif typeface to make it antiquated as if this forgery has been around for many generations. Baskerville and Didot were considered but the line weight and balance did not fit as well as Garamond.
